Variable dosage compensation is associated with female consequences of an X-linked, male-beneficial mutation

چکیده

Recent theory has suggested that dosage compensation mediates sexual antagonism over X-linked genes. This process relies on the assumption scales phenotypic effects between sexes, which is largely untested. We evaluated this by quantifying transcriptome variation associated with a recently arisen, male-beneficial, mutation across tissues of field cricket Teleogryllus oceanicus , and testing relationship completeness female at level gene expression. Dosage in T. was variable but usually incomplete, such relative expression genes typically greater females. Supporting we found incomplete tended to show female-skewed allele. In gonads, where most strongly female-biased, ovaries-limited were much more likely be than testes-limited genes, supporting view favours feminization X. Our results support expectation sex chromosome substantiating key underlying theoretical role determining dynamics

X-Chromosome dosage compensation.

In mammals, flies, and worms, sex is determined by distinctive regulatory mechanisms that cause males (XO or XY) and females (XX) to differ in their dose of X chromosomes. In each species, an essential X chromosome-wide process called dosage compensation ensures that somatic cells of either sex express equal levels of X-linked gene products. The strategies used to achieve dosage compensation ar...

X-Chromosome Dosage Compensation

The X and Y chromosomes of placental and marsupial mammals originated from a pair of autosomes. Ohno hypothesised nearly 50 years ago that the expression levels of X-linked genes should be doubled to compensate for the degeneration of their Y-linked homologues during sex chromosome evolution. The advent of microarray and RNA (ribonucleic acid) sequencing technologies in the past decade prompted...

Dosage compensation of the mammalian X chromosome influences the phenotypic variability of X-linked dominant male-lethal disorders.

In mammals females inactivate one of the two X chromosomes during early development to achieve an equal gene dosage between sexes. This process, named X chromosome inactivation (XCI), usually occurs randomly. However, in a few instances, non-random XCI may take place, thus modulating the phenotype observed in female patients carrying mutations in X-linked genes. Different aspects related to dos...

Dosage compensation: X-repress yourself

Dosage compensation in Caenorhabditis elegans involves the sex-specific recruitment to the X chromosome of a protein complex, the nature of which suggests that there are mechanistic links between chromosome segregation and global transcriptional regulation.

neutropenia associated with x-linked agammaglobulinemia

x-linked agammaglobulinemia (xla) is a hereditary immunodeficiency, characterized by an early onset of recurrent bacterial infections, hypogammaglobulinemia and markedly reduced b lymphocytes number. in order to determine the association of neutropenia among iranian patients with xla, hospital records of 30 patients with confirmed xla in children medical center hospital, were reviewed. eight ou...
